Police Shoot and Kill Robbery Suspect

Police shot and killed a robbery suspect last night after he pointed a gun at officers.

Authorities received reports of an armed mugging at 4th and Chew streets around 5:45 p.m.

Three highway patrol officers saw a man fitting the description of the mugger on the 5400 block of North 2nd Street near Tabor a short time later.

After a brief foot pursuit, the man took a defensive stance behind a tree, pointing his gun at the officers.

The officers opened fire, striking the man several times. He was pronounced on the scene at 6:25 p.m.

Police recovered a .380 caliber weapon from his body, along with the state identification card of the man he allegedly robbed on Chew Street.

The mugging victim later identified the deceased as the man who robbed him, though police have not yet determined the robber’s identity.
