Philadelphia public pool closures underway

Nearly a dozen Philadelphia public pools have already closed for the summer, and the rest are set to be drained over the next few weeks, as back-to-school preparations ramp up.

The city’s Department of Parks and Recreation opened 60 outdoor pools this year – which is every pool that wasn’t shuttered for repairs, officials said. Some pools had not opened in previous years due to a nationwide shortage of lifeguards.

So far, the Barry, F.J. Myers, Cobbs Creek, Lackman, Sacks, Bridesburg, East Poplar, Houseman, Jacobs, Ford and Morris Estate pools have closed. Wednesday will be the last day for the Mill Creek, Jardel and Piccoli pools, according to the department.

Here is a breakdown showing the last open day for the remaining pools:

Thursday, Aug. 17: Cruz Playground, Fox Chase, Mander
