Police are searching for a gunman who left one man dead after a drive-by shooting in Port Richmond Thursday morning.

The drive-by shooting happened about 4:50 a.m. near the corner of E. Venango and Almond streets in the Port Richmond neighborhood, NBC Philadelphia reported, adding that investigators believe a 21-year-old man was walking when a suspect in a white SUV that pulled up alongside him opened fire.

After being struck once in the left side and collapsing, the victim was taken by police to Temple University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, NBC added.

Investigators are working on a description of the car that fled the scene, ABC reported.

According to the victim’s mother, after the suspect shot her son, he stopped in front of her house and pointed the gun at her before driving away, NBC stated, adding that investigators believe the family may know the gunman.

The homicide remains under investigation, according to NBC.
