PSPCA recovers 23 pets from ‘unsanitary’ Northeast Philly home

The PSPCA will soon be adopting out 23 pets recently rescued from a home in Northeast Philly where they were discovered living in “unsanitary” conditions.

The 17 cats and six dogs were discovered after the PSPCA received an anonymous tip of a large number of animals living at a home on the 2000 block of Pacific Street in Harrowgate.

Philadelphia city ordinance forbids owning more than 12 pets at any one residence.

The PSPCA executed their search warrant on Tuesday, and Humane Law Enforcement Officers found among the 23 animals four puppies under six months and five four-week-old kittens.

Animal cruelty charges are now pending in the case and an investigation is ongoing. But the resident living with the animals, who the PSPCA did not identify, signed over ownership of all of the animals to the PSPCA.

All 23 animals are now being cared for by PSPCA veterinarians, and will soon be available for adoptions.

Anyone with information about this case or any case involving animal cruelty can call the Pennsylvania SPCA’s Cruelty Hotline at (866) 601-SPCA. To learn more, visit pspca.org.
