Purple Gatorade and the hopeless endeavor of gambling on Super Bowl juice

Water is boring.

When the NFL crowns its champion each year, it’s not typically water that rains down upon the victor’s back. It’s that funny little drink from Gainesville, FloridaGatorade.

Intriguing still that each year, we all try to guess the color of that bath. That sticky, sticky bath.

Well, in what can often feel as arbitrary as guessing the coin toss or the length of the National Anthem, Las Vegas, Nevada, has somehow monetized every last possible wager for the most exciting weekend in American sports.

Therefore, we’re going to cover what they’re getting covered in, so let’s take a look at this year’s odds for celebratory Gatorade color.

Odds for each Gatorade color on FanDuel & DraftKings Sportsbook

We will start with odds for each color on the DraftKings and FanDuel Sportsbooks. If I were you, I’d head to DK, where you’re getting much better odds across the board. FanDuel must know something…

COLOR FANDUEL DRAFTKINGS
YELLOW/GREEN +150 +300
ORANGE +250 +350
BLUE +340 +400
RED/PINK +400 +450
CLEAR OR WATER +700 +500
PURPLE +700 +750
NONE N/A +1,000

Over the last ten years, Cool Blue has seen the most action, cashing in at a rate of 40%, including the past two Super Bowls. You may find it unlikely that blue would threepeat but remember what we’re wagering on – it’s the color of juice. Crazier things have happened.

History tells us that the Philadelphia Eagles like this color.

Like the snow up and down Broad Street, it’s yellow. When the Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl 52, yellow accented the evening. Fittingly, yellow/green remains your favorite despite being poured just once over the last ten Super Bowls.

It sounds like Vegas thinks the Eagles may be superstitious and are also the likely winners of the 57th NFL Championship.

In the NFC Championship victory, Fletcher Cox and Lane Johnson went with yellow. Ride the hot hand.

Orange you glad to see Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs

When the Kansas City Chiefs won the big game in 2019, orange Gatorade got the call. Maybe a bit surprising considering Andy Reid’s moniker of Big Red.

You can get pretty decent odds on red if you believe the Chiefs would go color-coordinated, but it’s worth noting that red has never showered a coach since psychos like us started keeping track of this in 1987.

I guess red’s a hard stain to wash out, so I’d steer clear of this one.

THE VERDICT

So I will be going with yellow. As mentioned, we’ve never seen red, and it seems excessive to have blue three years in a row.

Purple could be a fun ringer if you don’t like yellow, so I might sprinkle it a bit closer to game time, but for now, yellow should make you some green.
