Unless you’re planning on lugging your Christmas tree out back and chopping it up for the fireplace, you’re likely dumping it on the curb, leaving that 50-pound Fraser fir for the trash collection. But there’s a better way.
You can drop off your tree at several locations throughout the city on Jan. 7 and Jan. 14, for eventual recycling.
Or, if you have a car, take it to one of six tree recycling centers around Philadelphia. Instead of withering away in a landfill, the tree can become mulch for gardens or provide nutrients for other plants. Just don’t forget to remove all your ornaments and lights first.
The sixStreets Department Sanitation Convenience Centers: 3901 Delaware Ave.; 5100 Grays Ave.; 2601 W. Glenwood Ave.; 3033 S. 63rd St.; Domino Lane and Umbria Street; and State Road and Ashburner Street. Drop off at these locations runs until Jan. 14. Locations are open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Additional drop-off sites for eventual recycling have also been added around the city. They are open on Jan. 7 and Jan. 14, from 9 a.m.. to 3 p.m.:
