Report: Arlen Specter, out of hospital, will return to teach at Penn this fall

Former U.S. Senator Arlen Specter was discharged from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Friday morning. According to a statement released by his son’s law firm, Specter, who has twice beat Hodgkin’s disease, is now battling non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He is expected to return to the hospital on a regular basis for further treatment.

An adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s law school, Specter told professor Matthew Wiener, co-teacher of the fall course “Congress, the Constitution and the Supreme Court,” that he plans to return to the class this semester, according to a report from The Daily Pennsylvanian.

“I do expect to see him sitting in one of the instructor’s chairs this fall,” Wiener told the outlet.

After his initial hospitalization in late August, Specter called the cancer “another battle I intend to win,” in a statement and said he looked forward to returning to “work, to the comedy stage, to the squash court and to the ballpark.”
