A southbound ramp leading from the Roosevelt Expressway to I-76 West and City Avenue should reopen Saturday evening, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation officials said Thursday.

The exit has been closed since Tuesday, when a truck driver traveling on I-76 struck the elevated ramp, causing structural damage, according to authorities.

Repairs are set to begin Friday, PennDOT said in a statement. The right lane of I-76 West between City Avenue and Lincoln Drive will be closed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday due to the construction.

State police said the collision, which occurred at around 1:30 p.m. Dec. 26, dislodged two shipping containers, one of which landed on a car, leaving that driver with minor injuries.

Since Tuesday, drivers on the Roosevelt Expressway, also known as U.S. 1, have been directed to take I-76 East and exit at Montgomery Avenue to get onto I-76 West.
