East Passyunk has long been an avenue for eclectic experiences, with its mix of diverse eateries and shops. Craving Italian food and antique home goods? They’ve got it. Spicy Mexican dishes and handmade jewelry? Please, that isn’t even a challenge over there. That’s why it makes perfect sense for the strip to throw a monthly party. The Second Saturday bash celebrates its distinct style — and the people who help create it.

Expect a different flavor than the long-running First Friday in Old City that we all know so well. This one is done up South Philly style, with a bit of grit, a dose of vintage and a world of excellent food.

Second Saturday is an opportunity to browse newer places and see what’s new at your favorite old haunts. Not to mention it helps boost the neighborhood’s revenue.

Some of the avenue’s shops will showcase discounts, like 1600 Below Vintage and Metro Men’s Clothing. Other businesses, like gift boutique Nice Things Handmade and furniture and decor shop HOME, will have art receptions to peruse. The new, environmentally conscious baby store Cloth will also give us a little sneak peak of what they have in store for local parents. And if you’re after some gold, check out the flea market happening in a lot between Tasker and Morris.

Part of what makes East Passyunk so appealing is the patchwork of backgrounds that make up its DNA. An event like Second Saturday has an obvious communal feel to it, yet you can recognize that each merchant is bringing their own spice to the table. Not only are they selling their own handpicked wares, they’re creating an environment that nurtures local artists, crafters and revolutionaries. Not to mention we love seeing so many monthly sales in one place.

Don’t forget to stop by the Aversa PR, FrontStretch.com, and PhillyLovesFun.com grand opening block party. You’ll get a glimpse behind the scenes of East Passyunk’s social media team. Plus you can munch on cupcakes from Ms. Goody Cupcake and sip on treats from Chhaya Cafe.
