In the latest chapter in the ongoing saga of embattled Attorney General Kathleen Kane, Kane’s office today released 49 emails to the media from the private account of state Supreme Court Justice Michael Eakin.

“This set of emails is, however, only a subset of the pornographic, misogynistic and racist emails received and sent by Justice Eakin on his private email,” a statement released by Kane’s office said.

Eakin sat on the panel of five Supreme Court judges who voted to suspend Kane’s law license due to her current indictment on perjury charges.

The release of the emails partly seems to be in response to the state Supreme Court’s reversal of courseearlier this month on the appropriateness of the emails.

A Judicial Conduct Board review in 2014 dismissed complaints over Eakin’s emails, but after the Supreme Court said this month that it was “disturbed” by the emails and would seek a new review by independent counsel, the Judicial Conduct Board said it had not had access to all of the emails at the time of their review.

Kane fired back that she had provided 1,000 emails from Eakin’s private Yahoo account to the Board, and has now provided them to the public.

“As the Judicial Conduct Board (JCB) has now placed its analysis into the public domain based upon Justice Eakin’s waiver of confidentiality, and seemingly and/or released upon my discretion due to public policy reasons,” Kane wrote in a letter Wednesday to Supreme Court chief justice Thomas Saylor. “As such, I intend to release all of the emails referred to in the JCB’s letter as ‘images that can best be described as mildly pornographic or sexually suggestive in the vein of material that appears commonly in Playboy.'”

Kane continued,“I am quite confident that the public, upon viewing these emails in their totality, will see them as I see them for what they are: offensive.”

Eakin released a statement apologizing for the emails.

“The items chosen for release do not reflect my character or beliefs, nor have they ever been part of my consideration of any case or business of the court. I do not offer this as an excuse, and will continue to cooperate fully with the independent review by the court and by the conduct board,” Eakin said.

Most of the emails were just received by Eakin, whose Yahoo account listed his name as “John Smith.”

Some were forwarded by him. In one, responding to a comment by Jeffrey Baxter, a prosecutor at the Attorney General’s Office, who wrote, “All blondes. Just my types!,” an email from Eakin’s account says,”This lineup at Dollhouse, Bax’s entire week’s bankroll is gone in an hour.”

The release of the emails follows a previous declaration from Kane that she would release all offensive emails her office has recovered that have been requested by various right-to-know requests.

Kane, who is charged with perjury over releasing grand jury information to the press, has claimed that she is being targeted by a “boy’s club” of attorneys and politicians in revenge for her discovery of pornographic emails that were being swapped around by prosecutors, judges, and other law enforcement figures.
