SEPTA kicks off food drive Monday

For the eighth year running, SEPTA will be collecting canned goods at transit stations to help fight childhood hunger in the Philadelphia region.

Starting Monday and running through June 20, the Stop Hunger at Your Station food drive in partnership with Philabundance will specifically combat “the heightened need for staple foods during the summer when thousands of children throughout the region cannot receive the free and reduced-cost meals they normally get at school,” according to SEPTA.

Needed items include:

• canned/shelf-stable tuna
• canned pasta
• canned beef stew
• canned chili
• plastic jars of creamy peanut butter and jelly
• canned green beans
• canned corn
• canned fruit

SEPTA customers and employees have contributed the equivalent of more than 214,400 meals to local families in need since 2009, SEPTA said.

Drop-off barrels are available at 43 locations, including most city Regional Rail and subway stations. For a full list of drop-off locations, visit septa.org/events/philabundance.html.
