SEPTA, police announce detours for Race for Cure

SEPTA has announced more than a dozen bus detours to accommodate Sunday’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure will be held in Philadelphia on Sunday morning, bringing with it road closures and SEPTA service changes.

SEPTA has announced the following bus routes will be detoured beginning at 7 a.m. Sunday:2, 7, 9, 17,27, 31, 32, 33, 38, 43, 44, 48, 124 and 125.

SEPTA buses will resume normal operations as soon as possible after the race.

Race for the Cure will proceed east on the Parkway from Eakins Oval to 16th Street, east on Arch Street to 15th Street, south on 15th Street to JFK Boulevard, west on JFK Boulevard to 20th Street, south on 20th Street to Market Street, west on Market Street to 32nd Street, north on 32nd Street to Powelton Avenue, east on Powelton Avenue to 31st Street, north on 31st Street to Spring Garden Street, and, finally, east on Spring Garden Street to the finish line along Eakins Oval.

Those streets will be closed to vehicular traffic during the race.

Philadelphia police expect all roadways, except those right around Eakins Oval, to be clear no later than 11:30 a.m. Eakins Oval should be open by 1 p.m., police said.

SEPTA has added six trips on its regional rail lines to accommodate runners and others participating in the Komen fundraising event.

The extra trips are:

  • Media/Elwyn Line: Departs from the Elwyn Station at 5:33 a.m.
  • Wilmington/Newark Line: Departs from the Marcus Hook Station at 5:48 a.m.
  • Lansdale/Doylestown Line: Departs from the Lansdale Station at 5:12 a.m.
  • Manayunk/Norristown Line: Departs from the Elm Street Station at 5:48 a.m.
  • Paoli/Thorndale Line: Departs from the Malvern Station at 5:20 a.m.
  • West Trenton Line: Departs from the West Trenton Station at 5:18 a.m.
