Police: Men stole 52 firearms from Delaware gun store

Delaware State Police have arrested four men for allegedly burglarizing a Seaford gun store Wednesday night, making away with a total of 52 firearms.

Investigators said the men forced their way through the window of Delmarva Shooting Supply around 11 p.m.

Once inside, they allegedly stole 17 long rifles, 35 handguns and a large quantity of ammunition.

The shop owner, who was alerted to the crime by the store alarm system, confronted the suspects, prompting them to flee.

Authorities said an investigation revealed the four suspects responsible to be Seaford men Kevin Handy Jr., 22, Daniel Cornish, 21, and Donald White, 19; and 19-year-old Devlyne King of Georgetown, Del.

Handy was arrested on Thursday after troopers found him in the passenger seat of a vehicle during a stop in Seaford.

Authorities said a search of the car turned up two handguns reported stolen from the gun shop.

Handy was arraigned and is charged with 53 counts of theft of a firearm, as well as second-degree burglary, second-degree conspiracy, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.

He is jailed at the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $141,500 cash bond.

Police said a search of Cornish and White’s Seaford residence turned up a lower receiver assembly from a rifle that detectives believe is connected to the burglary.

Cornish, White and King voluntarily turned themselves into police late Saturday afternoon.

They were arraigned and are charged with53 counts of theft of a firearm, as well as second-degree burglary, second-degree conspiracy, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.

All three men were jailed at the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $285,000 cash bond.

Troopers continue to investigate the crime.
