Serial bank robber is suspected in heist

CENTER CITY – A man sought in connection with eight area bank robberies since late September is suspected of hitting the Republic Bank near Eighth and Chestnut streets on Thursday, authorities said.

The suspect entered the bank at 1:18 p.m. and presented a threatening note to the teller before obtaining an undisclosed amount of money and fleeing on foot south along Ninth Street. Six of the alleged robberies were in South Jersey.

Considered armed and dangerous, the suspect is described as a black male in his mid-20s, 5-foot-7 with a medium build, mustache and goatee. Investigators suspect he lives, or may have lived, somewhere in South Jersey.
