Sevyn Streeter finally had her moment on the Philadelphia Sixers’ court.
The r&b singer sang the national anthem before the NBA team’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. Theperformance came two months after Streeter was booted for wearing a “We Matter” shirt moments before she was to sing before the Sixers’ season opener on Oct. 26. The singer wore a similar shirt bearing her namesake number when she sang Friday, which she called a “full circle moment” on Facebook.
“I was so nervous. My heart was beating so fast, but I’m glad I got to perform the National Anthem and in my ‘We Matter’ jersey,” Streeter told CBS Philly. The Sixers received an outpouring of backlash after Streeter posted about the cancelation on social media. Her post went viral, and the team soon issued an apology and re-invited her to perform at Friday’s game. Streeter posted audio of her performance on her Facebook page, as well as pictures with former Sixers greats Allen Iverson and Julius Erving.
Dr. J was on hand to celebrate Iverson’s induction into the NBA Hall of Fame and presented him with his HOF jacket during halftime.
The Sixers lost to the Lakers 100-89.
