Sharif Street Jr. — who was arrested last month following an altercation outside Mayor Cherelle Parker’s inauguration — is now facing charges for allegedly striking a 14-year-old girl with his car and fleeing the scene.

Cellphone records indicate that the 24-year-old Street called his father, state Sen. Sharif Street, chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, minutes after the crash, according to investigators.

Though the hit-and-run occurred in August, authorities filed charges against Street in late January. He has been charged with causing an accident involving injury, aggravated assault by vehicle, simple assault and reckless endangerment.

Street’s attorney, Donald Chisholm II, who was recently appointed to the case, declined to comment Tuesday and said his client would not be speaking to the press.

Police said the crash happened at around 8:40 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, at the corner of Broad Street and Erie Avenue in North Philadelphia. The teenager told authorities she had just walked up from the subway station and was crossing the street on her way to church when she was hit, an officer wrote in an affidavit of probable cause filed in court.

Court documents indicate the girl was hospitalized with a concussion and minor injuries to her leg and ear.

Camera footage shows her rolling onto the hood of a white sedan and being thrown in front of the car, the affidavit says. While witnesses run to her aid, the driver allegedly continues north on Broad after stopping for less than a minute, according to investigators.

One of the people at the scene snapped a photograph of the vehicle’s license plate, which pointed police in the direction of Street, the documents indicate. Automatic plate readers, the affidavit says, tracked the sedan later that day as it headed down the Atlantic City Expressway in South Jersey.

In September, officers pulled Street over in Mantua and confiscated his car, a Nissan Maxima, court records show.

Using phone data, analysts placed Street’s cellphone in the area of Broad and Erie when the crash occurred, the affidavit says. They also documented two calls – lasting 3 seconds and nearly 24 minutes – between Street and his father at 8:48 a.m. Aug. 13, the officer wrote.

Sen. Street’s office did not respond to a request for comment.

The younger Street was brought in for questioning in late September and told detectives that he was vacationing with his family and not in Philadelphia on the date of the crash, the affidavit says. He went on to say that he had lent the car to another person, but he could not provide any specifics about that arrangement, according to the officer.

Street was charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct after he allegedly punched a Met security guard multiple times in the face Jan. 2 outside the North Broad Street venue, which was hosting the city’s inauguration ceremony.

Representatives from the Street camp have said he was protecting his 80-year-old grandfather, former Mayor John Street, at the time of the incident. The case is pending, with a trial scheduled for later this month.

Street also pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in December related to a February 2023 arrest in Ambler and he was admitted to a diversionary program after Temple University police arrested him for the same offense in September, according to court records.

He was released from custody Jan. 31 after posting 10% of $25,000 bail in the hit-and-run case.
