Crooked Hammock Brewery is celebrating the return of Discovery Channel’s wildly popular Shark Week the best way they know how—with beer.

Just in time for 2022’s annual television event (which kicked off on July 24), the brewery is re-releasing Shark Party, a mixed berry sour that pours deep red and honors the ocean’s apex predator. The drink, which is described as a ripe raspberry refresher that’s soft and sweet on the tongue comes out to be a modest 6.5% ABV, and it also contains lactose, which helps keep the unique taste fresh.

Philadelphians who want to get their hands on the new brew can head to any of Crooked Hammock’s locations—in Lewes, Middletown or North Myrtle Beach—to grab the brew in 16-ounce cans, or, by the draft. But the output of the sea-themed libation is just one part of the brewery’s celebrations, which really come to a head this Wednesday, July 27, from 6 to 9 p.m. with their version of a Shark Party.

“Sharks are the ultimate apex predators, and the crazy cult following around them keeps growing,” says Crooked Hammock owner Rich Garrahan in a statement. “We plan to honor sharks, the oceans they live in, and the myths behind them — safe in our brewery on dry land, of course — while getting into the spirit of Shark Week.”

While at the celebrations ( tickets are available to purchase for all three location’s parties on July 27) visitors can participate in the First Taste Toast, where the first pours of Shark Party will be free for all 21+ guests. As a release states, the beer will be paired with a free Shark Bite raspberry grilled cheese as well, and there will also be a Shark Attack Beertail available for purchase, featuring gummy sharks and a taste of the “deep blue something.”

A costume competition will also take place with the Shark Wear Best Dressed Contest and those who win will each get an experience that the brewery describes as a “wet and wild adventure.” Whoever has the most creative costume while at the party will receive the prize, which is unique to each location and good for the recipient and three friends. At the Lewes location, that comes out to be a kayaking trip, courtesy of Quest Kayak, while the winners in Middletown will get 4 tickets to the Adventure Aquarium.

Additionally, famed shark artist Euan Rannachan will use Instagram to offer up a chance to win a custom cooler packed with Crooked Hammock treats. The California-based shark enthusiast will be hosting a “tag-and-follow” starting on July 20 for one lucky winner, which will run until the day of the event.

Crooked’s South Carolina brewpub will also feature a special presentation by Dr. Kim Ritchie from the University of South Carolina at Beaufort. The well-respected marine biologist studies aquatic life and coral reef organisms, climate and oceanic change, and the role of beneficial microbes, which visitors will learn more about on July 27. And finally, while at Crooked Hammock’s third location, patrons can also witness appearances from the Myrtle Beach Pelicans Rally Shark.

As a release states, Shark Party is a favorite beer from Crooked Hammock’s limited-edition Seeker Series which tugs at the outer reaches of our taste buds. These “yonder beers” challenge both brewer and drinker to test their comfort zone: sometimes stronger, always bolder and prone to cult followings.
