She’s got the ‘Nerve’

When it rains it pours. And actors in Philadelphia pray for rain.

Actress Leah Walton is coming off a very physical leading role in “Gnadiges Fraulein” — an obscure Tennessee Williams play produced by local absurdism gurus, Idiopathic Ridiculopathy Consortium. The closing night party was Saturday, but Walton couldn’t be found there. Minutes after the final bow, she was rushing off to put the finishing touches on Azuka Theatre’s “Nerve,” which opens this weekend.

“I think most actors would do the same thing,” says Walton, sitting in a rehearsal room at the Walnut Street Theatre, where she teaches an acting course. “I couldn’t pass them up, because there have been many, many situations where I’m really sad that I don’t have work. When you have it, take it. Take it!” And she can’t suppress a laugh there.

In fact, she’s jumping for joy to be working 12-hour days after a light season that included a Fringe show and Lantern Theater Company’s “Scapin.”

“I have a cat, and no other responsibilities,” she says, after going over some of the complicated dance sequences in “Nerve.” “I don’t have a spouse or a kid to pick up from choir practice. I have myself, and I’d rather be busy than bored.”
