Cayman Naib, 13, the missing Shipley School student found dead in a creek on Sunday five days after he went missing, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.
Naib left his Newtown Square home on Wednesday evening, the same night a heavy snow storm blanketed the area with 10 inches, after receiving information about a failing grade from the school, reports say. The Delaware County medical examiner completed its autopsy Monday and released the cause of death.
Naib’s body was found in Darby Creek a few hundred yard away from his home and within his family’s property.
“No words can adequately express the Naib family’s pain and sadness at this news,” a post about the news on a family Facebook page, “Celebrating Cayman,” said. “The family has asked that the community respect their need for privacy at this very difficult time as they mourn the loss of their son and support their daughter.”
