At least seven people were shot over the weekend in Philadelphia, including a man who was gunned down early Sunday morning in Fairhill.
The victim, a 31-year-old man, was rushed to Temple University Hospital after being shot once in the chest just before 4:45 a.m. on the 200 block of W. Lehigh Avenue, police said. He died a short time later.
At around the same time, a few blocks away, officers responding to a report of a person with a gun found a Jeep engulfed in flames on the 300 block of E. Lehigh Avenue in Kensington.
Authorities said a man in the vehicle was transported to the hospital for burns, and medical staff found he also had a gunshot wound to the head. The man, whose age was not released, was in critical condition.
Investigators have not said whether the two shootings could be related.
Less than an hour after those two incidents, just before 5:30 a.m. Sunday, a 25-year-old man was shot once in the back on the 3100 block of Kensington Avenue in Kensington. He is in stable condition at Temple University Hospital, police said.
On Saturday, an 18-year-old man was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound to his left hand at 9:30 p.m. on the 400 block of N. Redfield Street in West Philadelphia. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.
A man was shot in the right shoulder and thigh at around 9 p.m. Saturday on the 2200 block of Greenwich Street in Point Breeze.
Authorities, who described the victim as between 30 and 35 years old, said he was taken to Penn Presbyterian in critical condition.
A 17-year-old boy was shot in the stomach just after 5:30 p.m. Saturday on the 7600 block of Elmwood Avenue in the Eastwick section of Southwest Philadelphia, police said. Officers rushed him to Penn Presbyterian, where he is in stable condition.
Just before 4:30 p.m. Saturday, a 19-year-old was shot four times — in the head, back, left arm and buttocks — on the 2700 block of S. 65th Street in the Elmwood part of Southwest Philly, authorities said.
His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.
Police reported no arrests in connection with any of the shootings.
Several other people were injured in stabbings, including a 34-year-old woman who was in critical condition Sunday.
Authorities said she was stabbed three times in the chest and once in the leg at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday during a domestic altercation on the 5700 block of Grays Avenue in Southwest Philly.
Investigators recovered a weapon at the scene, but no one has been apprehended.
At around 3:15 a.m., officers found a 22-year-old man with nine stab wounds inside a house on the 1400 block of Rosalie Street in the Oxford Circle neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia, police said.
He was rushed to Einstein Medical Center and is in critical condition, according to authorities. There have been no arrests.
1 killed, 2 seriously injured in crash
A man died and two other men were seriously injured early Sunday morning in a violent crash near Philadelphia Mills Mall in the Far Northeast, police said.
Authorities said the three men were inside a car at around 1:30 a.m. when the driver lost control while heading southbound on the 12700 block of Knights Road. The vehicle hit a restaurant, Kpot Korean BBQ & Hot Pot, reportedly landing on the roof before falling to the parking lot.
John Cybulski, 26, who lived in the Far Northeast, was pronounced dead just before 2:45 a.m. at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, according to police.
A 21-year-old man was airlifted to Jefferson University Hospital, and a 22-year-old man is also hospitalized. Both are in critical condition, authorities said.
Investigators said they do not yet know who was driving. The accident remains under investigation.
