Thousands of Philadelphiansscrambled to Dilworth Park on Monday to catch a free pop-up concert by Stevie Wonder.
“My sister called me and I flew down here,” said Aundry Harris of the West Oak Lane section of the neighborhood.
Wonder played the surprise concert to promote the extension of his “Songs in the Key of Life” tour.
Wonder started the day with a short show at the Armory Mall in Washington, D.C. on Monday, and will end with an evening appearance in New York at Central Park SummerStage.

The surprise performances are in advance of his fall Songs in the Key of Life tour. Wonder will play the Wells Fargo Center on Oct. 7. The tour will close at Madison Square Garden in New York on Nov. 24.
The surprise show got fans scrambling to get to Center City. A few members of the crowd could be heard telling people to get to Dilworth Park as quickly as possible, in hope they wouldn’t miss the concert.

“Stevie Wonder has been a part of life since I can remember,” said John Hall Jr. of Wynnefield Heights.
Wonder played an hour-long set that featured hits such as “Superstition” and “I‘ll Be Loving You Always.”
In between songs, members of the local media tossed questions. Wonder was asked if he’d ever played three shows in one day.
“I never did this before, noooo,” Wonder sang to the crowd.
