Chestnut Hill welcomes spring with annual Home & Garden Festival

Posted

It's that time of year again—The Chestnut Hill Home and Garden Festival will be in full swing next month on Sunday, May 3.

With it, more than 250 vendors—including local businesses, artists, and crafters—will line the cobblestone streets of Germantown Avenue, turning the area into a lively open-air marketplace. The event will also feature outdoor craft demonstrations, live music, children’s activities, and over 200 retailers, restaurants, and businesses within the Chestnut Hill Business District joining in on the fun.

"The Home and Garden Festival really captures what Chestnut Hill does best: bringing people together in a way that feels authentic to the neighborhood,” said Courtney O’Neill, Executive Director of the Chestnut Hill Business District. “It’s a celebration of the artists, designers, and small businesses that contribute to Chestnut Hill’s identity and a reflection of the talent that exists within our community.”

A focal point of the festival every year is the Maker’s Village, which will feature different artisan demonstrations (including pottery, macrame, bulb layering, and even an observation hive with hive tools).

Food lovers will also find plenty to check out, including Lovat Square, an upscale wine shop and tasting room, and The Blue Warbler, a café, diner, and neighborhood pub all rolled into one. A variety of local food trucks will round out the offerings, serving everything from plant-based dishes at FlatBelly Veg to comfort classics from Sum Pig and Korean-Mexican fusion at Korea Taqueria.

Another highlight, the Stagecrafters Theater, will feature a stage with family-friendly entertainment and theatrical performances, including a special history-themed lineup celebrating America’s 250th anniversary while honoring the company’s 90-year legacy in Chestnut Hill.  More live music will also be sprinkled throughout the occasion, including sets by Philadelphia-based blues and soul band The Dukes of Destiny and rock cover band The Walk-Ins.

Festivalgoers can additionally explore the neighborhood’s rich mix of home and garden destinations, from long-standing family businesses like Robertson’s Flowers (since 1927) and Kilian Hardware (since 1913) to contemporary favorites like EMBER, HOST Interiors, Ennulat Art & Design, and Gravers Lane Gallery.

The event will also include a used book sale at Tavern on the Hill, and an outdoor cookout at McNally's Tavern with sandwiches (including the Schmitter), beer and spring-inspired slushies.

Philadelphians should note: In case of inclement weather, the festival will be postponed to Sunday, May 17. For more information on the Home and Garden Festival, visit chestnuthillpa.com.
