Philly is celebrating National Coffee Day with free coffee, fall sips

Need an excuse to grab another cup? National Coffee Day is coming to Philly on Sept. 29, bringing free coffee, fall-inspired drinks and plenty of caffeine-fueled celebrations around the city.

Char & Stave

For National Coffee Day, on Tuesday, Sept. 29, Char & Stave (the café-by-day, cocktail bar-by-night and roastery from Bluebird Distilling) is giving away free coffee at its  Chestnut Hill location. From 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., guests can enjoy one complimentary 12-ounce cup of hot drip coffee, plus a complimentary 1-ounce tasting of the Char & Stave Classic Coffee Liqueur (for guests 21 and older).
 
Caffeine lovers can also stick around for specialty lattes, cocktails and mocktails or shop Char & Stave’s signature roasts and barrel-aged blends to enjoy at home. Highlights include the Whiskey Smash Latte, Espresso Martini and Barrel-Aged “Old Fashioned,” along with the roastery’s Four Grain Bourbon Aged Blend.

Vernick Coffee Bar

Located inside the Comcast Technology Center, Vernick Coffee Bar is celebrating with a curated program featuring Caffè Umbria, a Seattle-based roaster known for its generations-old Italian coffee preparation. Guests can choose from classic espresso drinks, cold brew and more, then pair their coffee with one of Vernick’s house-made pastries, baked fresh daily.

For a seasonal sip, the Pumpkin Spice Latte is also now on the menu, made with house-made pumpkin spice syrup.

Red Owl Tavern

For the caffeine-fueled occasion, Red Owl Tavern is celebrating the launch of its refreshed Coffee Bar on Sept. 29 with complimentary coffee from 7 to 10 a.m. While there, locals can also check out their debut seasonal coffee menu, pop-up giveaways and nab a complimentary pastry voucher to redeem on a future visit.

Front Street Cafe

Front Street Cafe is known as a cozy Fishtown favorite that doubles as a full-service restaurant and fully equipped coffee bar. And for coffee fans, this locale offers a large selection of classic coffee drinks, including Bottomless Coffee for $3.25, lattes and cappuccinos. Locals can pair it with bites like Breakfast Tacos with turkey sausage, scrambled eggs and Chihuahua cheese, Buffalo Cauliflower with cucumber-dill aioli, an Acai Bowl with fresh fruit and house-made granola or French Toast topped with baked cherries, vanilla cream cheese and pistachios.

Talula’s Daily

What’s a better way to celebrate than with some newly dropped fall sips? While at Talula's, locals can order up The Salem, a pumpkin spice latte; The Burlington, a vanilla maple latte; The Big Apple, a caramel apple chai latte; and The Fuji, a spiced apple matcha latte.

Philadelphians can also opt for year-round favorites like the salted caramel Charleston, honey oat Dakota, or dirty chai Mumbai while here.

Philly Coffee Festival

Can't celebrate on Tuesday? Coffee lovers can keep the caffeine flowing into October at the third annual Philly Coffee Festival, coming to the 23rd Street Armory on Oct. 17 and 18.

The festival will bring together specialty roasters, coffee tastings and live entertainment under one roof. Admission includes tastings and food available for purchase, and sessions run both days from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., with early admission starting at 9 a.m. Tickets (starting around $25) are available online.
