Philly’s own Sisterly Love Collective plans to dish up another chapter of its annual Cookbooks & Convos series. The fourth edition of the culinary-clad fest will kick off with another run of options from Oct. 25 through Nov. 7.
Featuring more than 15 events with nationally acclaimed cookbook authors and food and beverage personalities, the two-week program will connect culinary talent from across the country with the city’s women-owned restaurants, bars and businesses through conversations, intimate dinners, samplings, happy hours and other food-focused gatherings.
This year’s lineup includes Toni Tipton-Martin, Kay Chun, Katie Button, Mia Castro and other notable voices in the gourmet world.
It all kicks off Sunday, Oct 25, with A Bakery Run. This new addition combines a 5K or 10K tour of local women-owned bakeries with a map from Sisterly Love Collective and Visit Philly (available online) showcasing all of the stops. At the finish-line afterparty, participants can then meet author Alex George at a book signing and enjoy treats inspired by her latest book.
Throughout the series, participating chefs, authors and culinary personalities will also bring their books to life through events that pair food and drink with storytelling and hands-on experiences. On Oct. 25, Honeysuckle will host A Taste of Country Cooking: Celebrating Edna Lewis, featuring food historian and author Toni Tipton-Martin in recognition of the 50th anniversary edition of Lewis’s landmark cookbook.
Then on Oct. 28, locals can head to a happy-hour tasting with Peggy Paul Casella at Pine Street Grill, inspired by 'The Dip Deck', and a secret supper club dinner at Talula’s Daily with chef and author Katie Button. The program will continue Oct. 29 with Sarah Trad at Habibi Supper Club for a dinner inspired by 'A House in the Lebanese Mountains.'
On Oct. 30, Jet Wine Bar will host Cheesy, a cheese-focused wine pairing with Farideh Sadeghin, in collaboration with Philly Cheese School and Third Wheel Cheese. Kay Chun, of New York Times Cooking, will then host a small dinner at High Street on Nov. 1, drawing from the book 'Gather Around My Table: Simple, Flavorful Recipes from My Global Pantry'. The following evening, Almanac will host Jena Derman and Jack Schramm for Solid Wiggles, a cocktail party exploring “the playful world of jelly shots and cakes.”
Also on Nov. 2, the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History will welcome authors Leah Koenig and Susan Spungen for A Sweet Conversation, a discussion of Jewish desserts along with a tasting. On Nov. 4, Anna Stockwell will then bring 'The Butter Book' to Rex at the Royal for an evening celebrating cocktails, biscuits and butter.
Nov. 5 will feature two events to check out: a family-recipe dinner at Recipe Philly inspired by 'Cocina Puerto Rico: Recipes from My Abuela’s Kitchen to Yours', followed by a cozy Eastern European supper at Little Walter’s with Alissa Timoshkina, author of 'Lozhka: Eastern European Soups, Stews & Other Things We Eat with a Spoon'.
Additional events include Tales from the Yeast Indies, a Min Jiang Kueh baking demonstration with Christopher Tan, and Gỏi Cuốn & Storytime, a Vietnamese food adventure designed for children ages three to eight. Further programming and ticket details will be announced through the festival’s official website.
