Three milestones in one night for Flyers after 5-3 win over Devils

The Philadelphia Flyers extended their win streak to three games on Saturday night, earning a 5–3 victory over the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center.

Philadelphia opened the scoring on a milestone moment for Owen Tippett, who buried his 100th NHL goal and recorded his 200th career point off a well-timed feed from Christian Dvorak. The sequence reflected the Flyers’ increased poise in the offensive zone — an area that has sharpened notably under head coach Rick Tocchet.

New Jersey answered later in the first when defenseman Simon Nemec beat Dan Vladar to tie the game 1–1.

The Flyers reclaimed momentum early in the second period. Matvei Michkov, fresh out of the penalty box, finished a feed from Travis Konecny to restore the lead. Minutes later, a redirected shot originally credited to Konecny was changed to Michkov, giving the rookie his second goal of the night and providing Philadelphia a 3–1 advantage.

Trevor Zegras added to the surge midway through the frame with his ninth goal of the season to make it 4–1. The Devils trimmed the deficit to 4–2 late in the period on a power-play goal from Timo Meier.

New Jersey tightened the game in the third when Dawson Mercer scored to make it 4–3, but Tippett sealed the win with his second of the night — and 101st career goal — into the empty net.

The victory also marked a major milestone for Tocchet, who earned the 300th coaching win of his NHL career.

After the game, Tocchet spoke about both the team’s growth and the milestone:

“I like the way we’re building our game," Tocchet said. "We’re starting to trust our structure, and when we do that, good things happen... The guys are really buying in. I’m proud of how hard they competed tonight — it wasn’t always pretty, but they stayed with it.”

“It’s nice, but for me it’s always been about the group," He added on reaching 300 wins. "Milestones don’t happen unless the people around you put in the work. This one belongs to the players and the staff just as much as it does to me.”

The Flyers now return home, where they’ll host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night.
