Roxborough is feeling festive, celebrating the holiday season with a four-week festival and a month of merry activities and activations. 'Happy Holidays from ROX' has taken over Ridge Avenue and Gorgas Park now through Dec. 20, highlighted by the neighborhood’s annual tree lighting, holiday market, and the arrival of the man of the hour, Santa — all taking place this Sunday, Dec. 6.
The holiday fun begins at noon with the Roxborough Holiday Market at Krams Ave and Pocket Park. The Market will run from noon to 5 p.m. with live music from Huston West taking place during the first two hours, a holiday showcase by Jeanette’s School of Dance at 12:30 p.m. and an ugly sweater competition beginning at 1:30 p.m.
The excitement ratchets up at 3 p.m. as Big Red himself — not Andy Reid, but jolly old St. Nick — will arrive with the Philadelphia Fire Department for a holiday photo op lasting until 5 p.m. that evening. From 4 to 6 p.m., folks can enjoy caroling with the Roxborough Men’s Choir, leading up to the event of the evening, the Annual Roxborough Tree Lighting Ceremony with special guests Santa and Captain James Kimrey. The lighting begins at 5:30 p.m.
"We are excited to bring this classic holiday celebration back to Roxborough for another year," said Roxborough Development Corporation Executive Director Jax Cusack. "Happy Holidays from ROX is about keeping spirits bright embracing the best of our community during the coldest time of the year, with collaboration from the local businesses and restaurants along Ridge Avenue. Celebrate the most festive time of year in Roxborough."
Happy Holidays from ROX is free to attend with pay-as-you-go food, beverages, and shopping.
Don’t forget to check out the other holiday events happening throughout the month in Roxborough, including The Evergreen Christmas Tree Maze, The Evergreen History Digital Scavenger Hunt, Roxborough’s Jingle Bell Rock Nite and more.
