Miracle on American Street returns with local makers, one-of-a-kind gifts

NextFab's annual holiday market brings more than 80 local vendors, hands-on activities and festive food to Philadelphia.

This holiday season, NextFab will once again make a case for shopping small, shopping local and giving the people you love something with a little more soul.

Returning for its sixth year, the Miracle on American Street marketplace will take over the creative venue on Saturday, Nov. 21.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on that date, more than 80 local makers will showcase unique finds like handmade jewelry, ceramics, art, textiles, candles, culinary creations, and other unexpected finds. But shopping is just part of the fun — guests can also catch live demonstrations, roll up their sleeves for hands-on make-and-take activities and enter special giveaways while there.

The neighborhood is getting in on the festivities as well, with businesses like Keystone Bikes, Resource Exchange, Valkyrie, the Center for Creative Works, and Virida joining the celebration. Sor Ynéz will also be on-site, serving up breakfast burritos, tacos, tamales, salsas, guacamole, chips, churros and hot chocolate (regular and spiked for those who can imbibe).

The vendor lineup, on the other hand, features dozens of designers and independent businesses, bringing together an eclectic mix of creativity and craftsmanship. Highlights include Folia Green, Kevin B Huang Studio Art, Zaba Clay, Queer Candle Co., Philly Womanwood, Maiden Denim, Little Mac’s Snax, Kalmus Culinary Knives, Jawnaments, Yemi Textile Art Studio, Wynonna Metals, and many more. As NextFab says, the variety promises something for every taste and every name on your holiday shopping list.

Founded in 2009 by Dr. Evan Malone, NextFab has spent more than a decade championing local manufacturing and creative entrepreneurship. As a release notes, its membership-based makerspaces give artists, inventors, and businesses access to professional-grade tools, technology, education, and mentorship to bring their ideas to life — the Miracle on American Street marketplace and celebration is just one example of that effort.

Those interested in exploring the space can find membership information at nextfab.com or follow NextFab (1800 N American St.) on Facebook and Instagram for updates on all upcoming events.
