A man was killed and at least six others were injured in separate acts of violence over the weekend across Philadelphia.
Police said an adult man died after he was stabbed once in the chest at around 2:45 a.m. Sunday on the 200 block of W. Lehigh Avenue in the Fairhill neighborhood. Authorities have not publicly identified the victim, and there was no word on any arrests or a possible motive.
In Kensington, an adult man was stabbed in his upper right leg just after 1:30 p.m. Sunday on the 1900 block of E. Elkhart Street, the PPD stated. He was hospitalized in stable condition, police said.
Just after 7:45 a.m. Sunday, a 32-year-old man was shot once in the right foot on the 3700 block of K Street in Harrowgate, according to law enforcement officials. He was taken to Temple University with nonlife-threatening injuries.
The PPD said a 40-year-old man was taken into custody, though no further information about him was released.
On Saturday, at around 8:15 p.m., someone shot a 28-year-old man several times on the 2100 block of N. 18th Street in North Philadelphia, police said. He was rushed to Temple hospital in critical condition, according to investigators.
In East Germantown, an adult man was shot in his right arm at around 4:45 p.m. Saturday on the 6200 block of Magnolia Street, law enforcement said. He was later listed in stable condition at Einstein Medical Center.
Officers were called at around 12:30 a.m. to the 2400 block of N. Cleveland Street in North Philadelphia for a report of a large fight involving teenagers and a possible shooting, authorities said.
They found two parked cars that had been hit by gunfire, and a 48-year-old man showed up at Temple hospital a short time later with a gunshot wound to his right leg, police said. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Ten minutes earlier, in an unrelated incident, a 31-year-old man was shot inside a house on the 1600 block of N. 55th Street in Overbrook, investigators said. Officers took him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, and he is expected to survive, according to the PPD.
Aside from the apprehension in the Harrowgate shooting, no arrests were reported. Anyone with information is asked to call or text the police tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477). Information can be provided anonymously.
Through Sept. 26, 129 people had been murdered in Philadelphia, a decrease of 21% compared to the same date last year, according to PPD data. The number of shooting victims is also down 29%.
