Philly gets 'Wicked' with drag brunches, sweet treats, and more

Posted

Philadelphia is ready to celebrate the most anticipated movie release of the year with 'Wicked: For Good,' opening nationwide on Friday, Nov. 21. Local restaurants, bars, and organizations are rolling out the green carpet with themed menus, drag brunches, dazzling desserts, and a charity night worthy of Glinda herself.

Journey to Oz Drag Brunch

Fishtown's Journey to Oz Drag Brunch is back on Sunday, Nov. 23, at Evil Genius Beer Company, 1727 N. Front Street. Doors open at 11 a.m. and tickets start at $20.

This brunch is pure Emerald City energy, featuring some of Philly’s most beloved drag performers in full 'Wicked' glam. Expect solo and group numbers, show-stopping costumes, and plenty of audience singalongs.

Evil Genius is debuting a new brunch menu and themed cocktails, along with their signature craft brews. Costumes are encouraged.

'Wicked'-ly sweet treats

In Northern Liberties, Madison K Cookies (800 N. 2nd St.) is sprinkling edible magic through December with a lineup of 'Wicked'-inspired cookies, cupcakes, and cakes.

Each hand-decorated treat shines in shades of emerald green and Glinda pink. Owner and baker Madison K says her goal was to “cast a sugary spell” worthy of the Emerald City. Orders can be placed online at madisonkcookies.com

Wicked Vibe Brunch

In Old City, Positano Coast by Aldo Lamberti (212 Walnut St., 2nd floor) transforms into an Emerald City dreamscape for their Wicked Vibe Brunch.

Running Nov. 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the restaurant’s newly renovated space will feature a 20-foot yellow brick road, life-size movie cutouts, themed cocktails, and an “Emerald City mix” spun by a live DJ.

Menu highlights include French toast with Grand Marnier and berries, a lobster skillet, smoked salmon flatbread, and a brunch burger fit for a Broadway witch.

Guests are encouraged to wear Oz-inspired outfits and click their ruby slippers for the perfect photo op. Reservations are available via opentable.com or by calling 215-238-0499.
