The 2026 Roots Picnic returns to Philadelphia this weekend with a star-studded lineup, a new location and extensive transportation and public safety plans as thousands of music fans are expected to gather in Fairmount Park.
Curated by Philadelphia hip-hop legends The Roots and presented in partnership with Live Nation Urban, the two-day festival will take place Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31, at Belmont Plateau for the first time.
This year’s festival lineup features some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B. Jay-Z will headline Saturday’s performances alongside The Roots, marking the pair’s first performance together in more than a decade. Erykah Badu is set to close out the festival on Sunday.
Additional performers include Kehlani, Brandy, T.I., De La Soul, Mariah the Scientist and Philadelphia’s own DJ Jazzy Jeff and a special all-star tribute celebrating 50 years of Go-Go music.
Ahead of the festival weekend, city officials joined event organizers for a press conference Thursday outlining transportation, parking and public safety preparations.
“This is Philadelphia continuing to do what it does best,” Mayor Cherelle Parker said. “We set the stage for moments where culture, community, and music come together in a way only this city can deliver.”
Set against one of Philadelphia’s most iconic public landscapes, the Roots Picnic returns as a centerpiece of the city’s summer season. Brandon Pankney, vice president of business development and operations for Live Nation Urban, called the festival “a cultural institution” in Philadelphia.
“We are ecstatic to bring the biggest Roots Picnic ever to the historic Belmont Plateau,” Pankney said.
To accommodate festival operations, road closures and parking restrictions around West Fairmount Park began earlier this month and will continue through the weekend.
Belmont Mansion Drive between Chamounix Drive and Montgomery Drive closed beginning May 18 and is expected to reopen June 3. Additional closures and lane restrictions are planned along Montgomery Drive, Martin Luther King Drive and nearby Interstate 76 ramps throughout the weekend.
Portions of Chamounix Drive and Martin Luther King Drive will also be closed to vehicular traffic during the festival.
Philadelphia police warned motorists to expect delays and urged drivers to allow extra travel time in the area.
Festival organizers are encouraging attendees to use SEPTA, rideshare services or bicycles to travel to Belmont Plateau. SEPTA Bus Route 38 services the area, and additional transit services will be available during and after the event.
Rideshare pickup and drop-off will be located at Wynnefield Avenue and N. Georges Hill Drive.
Although parking will be free, officials said space is limited.
Attendees can sign up for ReadyPhiladelphia emergency text alerts by texting “ReadyPhila” to 888-777 for updates on weather, transit and public safety information throughout the weekend.
More information about tickets, the lineup and festival updates is available through the Roots Picnic website and official social media channels.
