SEPTA will end sales of its “Key Tix” mobile tickets beginning Monday, March 2, the agency announced Thursday.
Customers who have already purchased Key Tix will still be able to use them for 180 days from the date of purchase.
Launched in December 2022, Key Tix allowed riders to download QR code tickets to their phones for use at fareboxes and turnstiles across SEPTA’s bus and Metro services. The program was introduced as a convenient option for occasional riders who did not have a SEPTA Key card but wanted similar flexibility.
SEPTA officials said demand for mobile tickets has declined sharply since the agency rolled out contactless payment options across all transit modes in April 2025. The system now records nearly 2 million contactless trips per month, compared with about 10,000 monthly trips using mobile tickets.
With contactless payment, riders can tap a physical credit or debit card or use a mobile wallet such as Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay at fareboxes and turnstiles.
SEPTA will continue to accept other forms of payment, including SEPTA Key cards — which offer a multi-rider feature allowing up to five passengers to travel on a single card — as well as Quick Trip tickets and cash.
More information is available at SEPTA’s website, septa.org, and through the official SEPTA mobile app.
