The War on Drugs heads to Fishtown for 'A Drugcember To Remember'

The three-day fundraiser has been on hiatus since 2022.

For the first time since 2022, Philadelphia is in for a Drugcember to remember.

Philly indie rock sensation The War On Drugs is bringing back a tradition of three fundraising shows, all benefiting The Fund for the School District of Philadelphia, a nonprofit that raises and coordinates investments in the Philadelphia public schools.

Drugcember will consist of three very special, intimate shows, all taking place at Johnny Brenda's in Fishtown from Dec. 18-20.

The venue has a general admission capacity of 250 people, far less than the larger stages the band is accustomed to now,  providing a far more intimate setting for concertgoers.

When Johnny Brenda’s first opened in September of 2006, it was The War on Drugs who took the stage for one of the first performances in the venue. Nearly 20 years later, the band is coming home once again.

The War On Drugs’ bandleader, Adam Granduciel, voiced his excitement for this year's Drugcember to Remember in a press release announcing its return.

“Another Drugcember to remember!"  Granduciel said. "This has been a year-end highlight for me since we started doing it in 2018. Three rock shows at our old local hangout benefitting the Philadelphia school system. This band wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the vibrant Philadelphia community that has supported us since the beginning and we are very grateful for it.”

The band first celebrated Drugcember back in 2018 and every year — except 2020, due to the pandemic — until it went on hiatus in 2022.

This Drugcember will feature additional fundraising through the sale of exclusive Drugcember items provided by local Philadelphia businesses, including Elixr Coffee, Sacred Vice Brewing, Room Shop, Uncle Ron’s Candles, and Kinetic Skateboarding/Nocturnal Skate Shop.

Tickets for Drugcember to Remember go on sale Friday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m. EST. To purchase tickets, visit thewarondrugs.net. For more information on The Fund for the School District of Philadelphia, visit thefundsdp.org.
