Authorities have arrested a woman for allegedly using a stun gun while robbing a 66-year-old woman last month at a SEPTA bus stop in Oxford Circle.
The victim was waiting for the Route 59 just before 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at Castor Avenue and Benner Street when two people got out of a red Jeep SUV, police said.
Investigators say Janesha Pickett, 35, grabbed the older woman’s bookbag. During an ensuing struggle, Pickett allegedly knocked her to the ground and dragged her, according to law enforcement officials.
Police said the victim held onto the bag until the suspect pulled out a Taser and used it on her arms and hands. It contained about $500 in cash, and Pickett and the person fled the area in the Jeep, authorities added.
A short time later, the bus arrived, and the driver helped the woman off the ground, according to the PPD.
Pickett, who lives nearby, was charged Wednesday with aggravated assault, robbery, conspiracy and several other offenses. Court records show that her bail was set at 10% of $200,000, and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 26.
The Defender Association, which is representing Pickett, declined to comment on the charges.
