Two men were killed and four other people were injured when shots were fired into a house early Sunday morning in Strawberry Mansion, authorities said.

Police said the shooting occurred just after 12:45 a.m. on the 2400 block of N. Myrtlewood Street.

Investigators suspect the home, in the middle of a tight block of rows, was operating as a speakeasy, and police believe the shooter or shooters opened fire from the street. Multiple fired cartridge casings from a 9mm gun were found outside the home, according to authorities.

A 53-year-old man who was shot in the face was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 41-year-old man died at Temple University Hospital after he was shot multiple times in his chest, police said.

Officers who responded to the scene transported a 42-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his left hand to the hospital, according to investigators. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Three other victims – a 23-year-old woman, a 28-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman – showed up at Temple University Hospital in private vehicles, and authorities said they were all listed in stable condition.

Later Sunday, evidence markers were still visible around bullet holes on the property’s air conditioner, mailbox and door. A ‘no guns allowed’ sticker was posted on a window. A neighbor told Metro she was asleep when she heard the shots.

“This is a quiet block. Everyone gets along on this block,” said the woman, who declined to provide her name. “Nothing ever happens around here. This is a family-oriented block.”
