Students to get day off ahead of papal visit

This may be no surprise, but it is official.

Public school students will get a day off for Pope Francis’ visit in September under the Philadelphia School District’s new 2015-2016 calendar.

Schools will be closed Sept. 25, a Friday.

Pope Francis is scheduled to visit Sept. 26-27 for The World Meeting of Families, which the church describes as the largest gathering of Catholic families at one time.

Organizers expect one million people to attend a Mass celebrated by Pope Francis on the Ben Franklin Parkway on Sunday the 27th.
