Suspect surrenders in fatal shooting of Northeast Philly teen

A man is in custody for last month’s fatal shooting of a 14-year-old Mayfair boy.

Samir Price, 19, turned himself in to Philadelphia police Tuesday to face charges for the Nov. 28 killing of the victim, Ian Wilsey, who was hanging out with a friend in Northeast Philly.

Price, of the 6100 block of Loretto Street, is charged with murder, robbery and firearms offenses.

Authorities said two men ambushed Wilsey, a ninth grader and his 16-year-old friend around 9 p.m. on the 6200 block of Brous Avenue in Mayfair. When the teens tried to run, one of the suspects opened fire with a semiautomatic handgun. Wilsey was struck in the chest three times. One of the bullets pierced his heart. His friend was not harmed.

At the time, investigators were unsure of any motive in the shooting. But a sourcelater saidthe two boys may have been targeted after they saw the suspects sell marijuana to another friend.

Wilsey was a student atNortheast High School.A GoFundMe page was created to help his family pay for funeral costs. The website has also served as a place where people can pay tribute to the boy, who would have turned 15 in December.

“Ian left a lasting impression on me after having him last year. Some days tough, but mostly fun. I loved our Monday morning conversations about football,” Wilsey’s former teacher, Jessica Nicholls, wrote. “He will be missed. Cherish all the wonderful memories of him.”
