Taylor Swift has asked a New Jersey teen suffering from leukemia to the Country Music Awards, and he has his sister (and Facebook) to thank.
Kevin McGuire, 18, idolizes the country star, so when he had a relapse of the cancer he was diagnosed with at the age of 13 and beat in April 2010, his sister created a Facebook page urging Swift to take him to prom.
The campaign quickly gathered steam, leading to over social media 100,000 supporters and a trending #TeamKevin Twitter hashtag.
Swift responded to the outpouring of support today, writing on her Facebook page that she couldn’t make it to the teen’s Sterling High prom, but asking him to the Academy of Country Music Awards.
“Kevin, I’m so sorry but I won’t be able to
make it to your prom,” she posted. “But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming
up.. Would you be my date?
Love, Taylor”
Looks like Team Kevin can chalk this one up as a win.
