Teenager killed in North Philly double shooting

Eight people were shot Tuesday and early Wednesday in the city, authorities said, including a teenager who was gunned down in North Philadelphia.

Officers were called just after 11:45 p.m. Tuesday to the 2800 block of N. Bonsall Street, where they found two teens with gunshot wounds.

A 19-year-old man, who was identified as Tyrone Coach, of Southwest Philadelphia, had been shot multiple times to the head and body, authorities said. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

The other victim, a 17-year-old boy, was rushed to Temple University Hospital with two gunshot wounds to his left forearm. He is in stable condition, according to police.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

Early Wednesday morning, just after 4 a.m., a 39-year-old man was shot in the foot near the corner of E and Lippincott streets in Kensington, police said. He was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Police said a 42-year-old man was struck by gunfire at 11:57 p.m. Tuesday on the 1100 block of Roy Street in North Philadelphia. He is in critical condition, being treated for a wound to his lower left leg, authorities said.

A 24-year-old man walked into Temple Hospital at around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday with gunshot wounds to his right side and right arm. Investigators said he was injured in a shooting nearby at the corner of 15th and Ontario streets in North Philadelphia.

The victim’s injuries are not life-threatening, according to police.

In Tacony, a 17-year-old boy was shot multiple times at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 6600 block of Vandike Street, authorities said. Officers rushed him to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Investigators recovered a gun, and police said the teenager was being held as a prisoner but provided no further details.

At around 6:45 p.m., a 29-year-old man was shot once in the chest near the intersection of Griscom and Church streets in Frankford, authorities said. He was taken to Temple Hospital and is in stable condition, according to police.

Earlier in the day, a FedEx driver, who police described as approximately 30 years old, was shot in the chest and left leg at around noon on the 800 block of S. 3rd Street in Queen Village.

Officers rushed the driver to the hospital, where he was in critical condition.

Authorities said a man has been arrested in connection with the incident, but they have not identified the suspect.

Two killed in Point Breeze fire

Authorities said two people died after a house fire erupted early Wednesday morning in the Point Breeze section of South Philadelphia.

Firefighters responded just after 12:30 a.m. to the 2200 block of Pierce Street for a report of people trapped inside the home.

A 39-year-old woman and, according to multiple media reports, her 14-year-old son, were rushed to Jefferson University Hospital. Both died from their injuries at around 1:30 a.m.

In addition, a 12-year-old girl was transported to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Her injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

There was no word on what caused the fire.

FOP ponies up reward for arrest in attack

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5, which represents officers in the Philadelphia Police Department, announced Wednesday that it is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a man who attacked a woman in Germantown earlier this month.

Helen Jones, 61, was walking from her house to her car Oct. 6 when a man she didn’t know threw a chemical on her face on the 5100 block of Newhall Street. Jones was blinded and suffered burns.

“This random acid attack is a disturbing crime,” FOP Lodge 5 President John McNesby said in a statement. “We need to find this male suspect immediately to prevent another attack.”

A GoFundMe campaign to support Jones has raised more than $60,000.
