Philabundance is celebrating four decades of service in 2025, and locals are invited to the party.
The (Beet) Hunger Bash: Presented by Free People will take over The Pump House in Bala Cynwyd (605 Righters Ferry Road this Tuesday, May 14. Beginning at 7 p.m. (6 p.m. for VIPs), this immersive tasting experience will feature over 20 restaurants, culinary purveyors, and acclaimed chefs, all commemorating the organization’s mission.
Philabundance was founded in 1984 through Pamela Rainey Lawler’s efforts as a grassroots food recovery organization. Today, the nonprofit has expanded its reach and impact, distributing over 50 million pounds of food annually on top of other community-based activations.
“For 40 years, Philabundance has been fighting hunger and nourishing our communities. As we mark this milestone, we are looking ahead with an even greater commitment to fighting hunger in bigger and bolder ways,” states Loree Jones Brown, Philabundance CEO.
“Food is at the heart of everything we do, and as food insecurity rates continue to grow, so does our responsibility to serve. With more than 600,000 people in our region facing food insecurity, including 1 in 3 children, the need has never been greater. The 40th Hunger Bash is a powerful moment that unites our incredible supporters and partners, to fuel lasting solutions.”

Chef Nicholas Elmi will host the occasion — some may recognize the James Beard Award Finalist and ‘Top Chef’ Winner from Lark and Laurel as well at The Pump House — plus James Beard Award-winning chefs Cristina Martinez (South Philly Barbacoa) and Jeff Michaud (Osteria) will be among the list of creative attendees.
Tickets to the (Beet) Hunger Bash run for $400 for general admission (which features unlimited bites and beverages from some of the region’s top restaurateurs, breweries, and spirit vendors, live entertainment, silent auction access, and other activations), and $500 for VIP (exclusive access beginning an hour early from start time.)
“For four decades, Philabundance has been at the forefront of fighting hunger in our region,” finishes Loree D. Jones Brown, Chief Executive Officer of Philabundance. “This event is not only a celebration of our legacy, but also a call to action. Food insecurity continues to affect far too many families in our communities, and together, we can make an even greater impact in the years ahead.”
