The Word: Congrats to the Bachelor … maybe

For those of you who had something, anything better to do on Monday night — seriously, we’re talking laundry with your cat, here — we’re happy to report that two-time “Bachelor” Brad Womack actually proposed to a (questionably) lucky lady this time around.

But don’t worry if you missed it: He’s detailing it all on his “‘Bachelor’ Blog” for People.com: “The day that I proposed to Emily is one that will forever be etched into my mind. … I remember thinking to myself, ‘I’m looking at the woman I’m going to marry.’”

We like how he conveniently forgets thinking, “Do I look good on camera from this angle? I wonder if ABC will go for my ‘The Fiance’ pilot?’”

It’s like that couple who met on MySpace: Nobody buys their awkward friends-of-friends story, no matter how much they practice it.

Gottfried fired over tweets

After making some shockingly tasteless and lame jokes (even for this column) on Twitter about the disaster in Japan, Gilbert Gottfried lost his gig voicing the Aflac duck. A spokesman for the company said his comments “were lacking in humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts … of anyone at Aflac,” reports Reuters.

Kate’s clan is chipping in

She may be marrying the future king of England, but Kate Middleton’s parents will contribute a six-figure sum to her April 29 wedding to Prince William, reports Vanity Fair. It sounds like a lot — like, an-entire-wedding-plus-honeymoon-and-condo lot — but it’s barely centerpiece money: The nuptials are reportedly running a cool $10 million.
