The Ye Shi Night Market returns to Chinatown on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. The fun takes place on 10th Street between Arch and Vine streets and Race Street between Ninth and 11th. Last year’s festival was a huge success, and there’s plenty of reason to believe that this year’s edition will be even bigger.

The Night Market will be host to an abundance of food vendors. Neighborhood favorites like Gigi’s + Big “R” Caribbean Soul Food, Kung Fu Hoagies, Farm Truck Philly and more will provide ample sustenance for the bustling crowds. Arts and crafts will spark inspiration and laughter. Entertainment will include live performances by local singers and performers, including singer/songwriter Jason Lento, DJ Ronnie D and more. Karaoke and an action-packed karate demonstration are also on deck.

The Philadelphia Suns look to bring the Night Market to life with their extravagant Lion Dance performance. Lion dancing is “a cultural activity that all members participate in.” The Suns also take pride in their contributions to the neighborhood. Their performance functions as a major fundraiser for the Asian American community. The Suns were founded in 1972 and have been an integral part of youth development in the city. Their acts reinforce their mission: “The Philadelphia Suns organization seeks to build character in our members so that they would be positive influences in our team and community, as well as productive team players in their personal and professional lives.”

The Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation (PCDC) is host of the night, and has been since 2011. Last year, the PCDC reported over 25,000 attendees and 55 vendors. According to a report by Econsult Solutions Inc., the Night Market has generated approximately $11.4 million in economic impact, supporting over 100 jobs and generating $134,000 in city tax revenues. This especially bodes well for the emerging companies who are just getting their start in a rapidly growing small business market in Philadelphia.

The Ye Shi Chinatown Night Market is not only a spectacular night on the town, but it is an opportunity for exposure and growth for the community. The city’s widely diverse array of culture, cuisine, arts and entertainment will be on full display.

Attendees are encouraged to share their experience on social media using the hashtag #yeshinightmarket.
