There’s a new Sixers-inspired beer

Big Sixers fan? Then you must be excited to kick off the 2017-2018 season tonight against the Washington Wizards. While the game should be enough to look forward to, you can make the experience even better by sipping  a new Sixers-inspired beer.

Yes, that’s right. The folks at Misconduct Tavern have crafted a special beer in collaboration with Conshohocken Brewery called “Hinkie’s Sweet Revenge.”

The brew is partly inspired by Joel Embiid, the much-loved Sixers center, who is often seen socializing at different Center City bars sipping his go-to drink — a Shirley Temple.

This new beer is crafted as homage to that classic drink but its name also pays homage to former general manager and president of basketball operations for the Sixers, Sam Hinkie.

“No one has done this before and we took a chance making a Shirley Temple-inspired processed ale. We are happy with the results of the beer,” says Fleming Kerr, general manager at Misconduct Tavern. “We called this beer Hinkie’s Sweet Revenge because just like Sam Hinkie, we had to trust the process.”

In April of last year, Hinkie resigned, after his “process” didn’t yield immediate results for the team, but now, many in the sports world are rethinking their stance. Perhaps this season will be “Hinkie’s Sweet Revenge,” and while he won’t get to enjoy the fruits of his plan directly, at least he’s got a beer to his name.

This Misconduct Tavern and Conshohocken Brewery collaboration is a Belgian Witbier brewed with ginger and black currants, so it’s definitely got a sweet kick.

Tonight there will be a launch party for Hinkie’s Sweet Revenge at Misconduct Tavern’s Locust Street location, beginning at 5 p.m. Guests can even enter a raffle to win two pairs of tickets to the home opener on Friday, Oct. 20 at the Wells Fargo Center.

After the launch party, you can get the beer throughout the Sixers 2017-2018 Season at both Misconduct Tavern locations (1511 Locust St. and 1801 JFK Blvd.) and Conshohocken Brewery (739 E. Elm St., Conshohocken).
