Philadelphia police are searching for thieves responsible for taking two mausoleum doors from the historic Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Police said the cemetery theft occurred Monday morning, and the estimated value of the doors was $25,000, NBC10 reported.

“Police are checking some salvage yards in the area, scrapyards, any junkyards where possibly these doors could be sold,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small was quoted by 6ABC.
As one of the few cemeteries designated a National Historic Landmark, Laurel Hill is the final resting place of many famous Philadelphians, NBC10 added.
“We are here to take permanent care of families and that’s our job. For someone to think they can come in and take away someone’s entire history is unthinkable,” Laurel Hill Cemetery CEO Pete Hoskins said to 6ABC.

Hoskins also told 6ABC that he was stumped as to how the thieves were able to get away with the doors, which were 6 feet in height and weighed 800 pounds each.
