Three killed during violent night

Two men are in critical condition and three people are dead after a violent night that brought the city’s total number of homicide victims to 85 this year.

Police said a man, 42, was shot twice in the chest by an unknown gunman in a red Cadillac at 11th Street and Wagner Avenue in the Logan section of Philadelphia shortly before 4 p.m. He was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center in critical condition. The Cadillac was last seen driving westbound on Somerville Avenue. No arrests have yet been made.

About a half an hour later, police were called to a first-floor apartment on the 700 block of South 19th Street near Bainbridge Street to investigate a report of blood stains. In the bedroom closet, they found a man, 41, with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene shortly before 5:15 p.m. There is no word on a motive or arrests.

Police said a man, 21, was shot once in the head inside a Chinese store on the 2700 block of Dickinson Street in Grays Ferry. He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he died shortly before 7:15 p.m. No weapon was recovered and no arrests have been made.

About an hour later, a woman, 31, was found by a male friend on the first floor of her home on the 300 block of North 64th Street in West Philadelphia. Police said she suffered multiple wounds to the chest and head and died on the scene. She was the city’s 85th homicide victim of the year. Again, no word yet on a motive or arrests.

A man, 40, is in critical condition after he walking into Temple University Hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper back. Police said he was shot on the 2900 block of Germantown Avenue in North Philadelphia around 12:15 a.m. No arrests have been made.
