The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society is holding a tour of PECO’s green roof tonight at 5:30 p.m.
The 45,000 square-foot roof on top of the company’s 2301 Market Street headquarters, unveiled earlier this year, is the largest green roof ever installed in an urban area in Pennsylvania.
The vegetative roof absorbs stormwater runoff, reduces heating and cooling costs and absorbs air pollution as part of the company’s $15 million environmental initiative. It includes a variety of indigenous plants, as well as an observation deck with skyline views.
PHS-led tours will take place every third Thursday of the month until October. Advance registration is required.
