Nothing says Christmas like a brass band. Well, maybe not — but TubaChristmas is once again happening anyway. On Sunday, Dec. 22, at noon and 5 p.m. in the Kimmel Center‘s Commonwealth Plaza, tuba and euphonium players will perform classic Christmas carols, for free. The instruments will be decorated with tinsel and mistletoe, for the full holiday effect.
TubaChristmas, which takes place throughout the world, started in 1974 as a tribute to the late artist and educator William J. Bell, who was born on Christmas Day in 1902. It was first performed in New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink.
