Two people were killed, including a man who was stabbed and run over by a car, and 12 others were struck by gunfire in another flurry of shootings Monday night into Tuesday.
Officers were called just before 1 a.m. Tuesday to the 3300 block of Braddock Street in Kensington for a report of a person with a weapon. They found a man on the sidewalk with multiple stab wounds, and bloody tire marks surrounded his body, investigators said.
Authorities said they have not identified the man and described him only as a black male, possibly in his late 40s.
He became the city’s 277th homicide victim in 2020, matching the year-end total from 2016. More people have already been killed this year than in 2013 and 2014, and homicides are up 31% over last year.
Earlier, in West Philadelphia, two men opened fire on a 27-year-old man at around 8:45 p.m. Monday on the 600 block of N. 52nd Street, police said. Officers rushed him to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds throughout his body, and he died shortly thereafter.
Detectives continue to search for suspects in both slayings.
Two children were also injured in shootings Tuesday afternoon.
In North Philadelphia, just after noon, a 12-year-old boy was shot in the wrist on the 2100 block of N. 5th Street in North Philadelphia. He was in stable condition and being treated at the hospital, police said.
Later, inside a property on the 100 block of N. Peach Street in West Philadelphia, a 15-year-old was shot in the left shoulder, authorities said. Officers rushed him to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and his injuries aren’t life-threatening. Investigators did not find a weapon at the scene, and no arrests have been made.
Two men showed up at Temple University Hospital after gunshots rang out on a basketball court near 11th and Norris streets in North Philadelphia at around 10:45 p.m. Monday
An off-duty police officer reported the shooting, and investigators recovered 17 spent shell casings on the court. Authorities soon found out that two men, a 20-year-old and a 29-year-old, had just arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds.
The older victim was shot twice in the chest and is listed in critical condition, police said, while the younger man suffered a graze wound to his right shoulder.
Five people were injured in two different shootings that took place during a span of less than 15 minutes Monday night in West Philadelphia, authorities said.
First, at around 9:45 p.m., a 19-year-old woman was shot in the left thigh and a 24-year-old man was hit in the left hand in the area of 58th and Thompson streets. Both were treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Then, officers were called to 55th Street and Baltimore Avenue at around 9:58 p.m., and they found two men who had been shot.
An 18-year-old man had a gunshot wound to his left leg, and a 27-year-old man was shot multiple times in both legs. A third victim, a 20-year-old man, was dropped off at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center by a friend with a gunshot wound to his left foot.
All three men were in stable condition, according to authorities.
An 18-year-old man was rushed to the hospital after he was shot once in the back just before 9:30 p.m. at the corner of 65th and Belmar streets in Southwest Philadelphia. He is in critical condition, police said.
In North Philadelphia, at around 9:30 p.m., a 28-year-old man was shot once in the buttocks in the area of Bancroft and York streets, investigators said. His injuries were not life-threatening.
Earlier Monday, just after 5:30 p.m., two men arrived at the hospital following a shooting on the 200 block of Apsley Street in Germantown, according to authorities.
A 30-year-old man was shot four times in the buttocks, and a 21-year-old man was struck in the right knee. Both are in stable condition.
Police said no arrests have been made in relation to any of the shootings.
