A 50-year-old man was fatally shot while trying to prevent a carjacking Wednesday night in South Philadelphia, police said.

The victim was reportedly coming to the aid of a friend who was being forced out of her vehicle by two gunmen at around 10:45 p.m. on the 1100 block of Porter Street.

Authorities said one of the suspects shot the man once in the head, and he died at the scene. The carjackers drove away in a red Kia Soul and were last seen heading east on Porter Street, according to investigators.

Later that night, just before midnight, someone shot a 19-year-old man multiple times on the 2700 block of A Street in Kensington, police said. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries less than an hour later.

Police have not publicly identified either victim, and no arrests were reported in the immediate aftermath of the homicides.
