Two women have been charged with aggravated arson, attempted kidnapping and burglary in connection with an overnight fire.

Bensalem cousins Lynette McGuire, 32, and Denise Coyle, 33, allegedly attempted to abduct McGuire’s 3-year-old daughter from the child’s grandparents’ home in Washington Township, New Jersey, before setting the home’s garage on fire, ABC reported.

Police arrested the women about a mile away soon after the incident.

Prosecutors stated that evidence from the scene is undergoing testing, ABC added, also reporting that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is expected at the crime scene Friday.

The grandparents and their grandchildren were uninjured, NBC said in a related report.

“If not for the timely response of the Washington Township Police Department and the Washington Township Fire Department, this incident may have ended quite differently,” said Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton to NBC.

“It’s terrible – I mean, we’re two weeks before Christmas,” said Aubrey Rybyinski, a neighbor, to ABC. “The house looks like it’s going to be a total loss. It’s heartbreaking.”

McGuire and Coyle are each being held on $100,000 bail, and additional charges are pending, according to NBC.
