Union goalkeeper earns All-Star nod

Add another feather to the captain’s cap.

Union goalkeeper and team captain Faryd Mondragon was selected to play in the MLS All-Star Game.

The midseason showcase will be broadcast live (ESPN2, 8:30 p.m.) on July 27 at New York’s Red Bull Arena.

Mondragon is among 22 All-Stars who will compete against English Premier League club Manchester United. The 40-year-old Colombian keeper has been a stabilizing force in net this season, posting a 0.84 goals-against average and seven shutouts, both are third-best in MLS.

This is Mondragon’s first MLS All-Star selection and second in Union franchise history. Sebastien Le Toux was the first, representing the club last year in Houston. metro
